My Hydrangeas

My Hydrangeas are having their best year yet so I wanted to share!

Thank you to my Dad and hubby who created this for me! :-)

I can't wait for spring to weave some climbing roses and vines! It will be a lot of fun to cluster some beautiful potted plants around the base as well.

Hello, Spring!

 We did a little shopping at the Garden Center today. I was in heaven! Roses everywhere!

 

Our purchases! The plum and baby pink colored roses smell divine.

I couldn't resist! Aren't they cute? Now let's hope I can keep them alive. 

 

Our original orange cushions were past their expiration date. They were stained with dirt and ripped from the dogs sun bathing on them. We had been meaning to get new cushions for a long time. We got these from Garden Ridge...I mean, At Home.

Summer: Back yard

     My husband and I have truly enjoy our outdoor space this spring and summer. The only major thing we did was paint the deck. Thanks to my hubby and dad! They did great!  Other than that we did a lot of fun stuff like adding potted plants and decorating the yard. 

      I'm proud of all our hard work maintaining such a large yard - watering all the plants, the grass, trimming trees and bushes etc. Summers are crazy hot in the south, thankfully this year we didn't  hit triple digits. :-)

We have a huge back yard. The picture is taken from the side of the house where the deck is. As you can see along the ride side of the picture our yard goes around the back of the house as well. We have a small patio and fountain (pictures of patio and fountain area).

As friends and family know, my husband and I are in love with roses. We have about 12-14 roses bushes throughout our yard.  These are a few of our Double Knockout Roses.

Back Patio: Sloping

   Soon after we moved in we noticed a sloping issue in our backyard patio area. We didn't know why the yard was sloped so crazy. All the rain water was basically flowing toward the house in one area. It's important to remember when doing any type of projects in your yard that the builders build the lot with a slope. A sublet tilt that causes rain water to flow away from your house and into the street. People often have issues when remodeling their yards because they forget or don't know this important information and disrupt the slope.

(This is the picture from HAR. It's hard to tell but the area with bald spot of dirt is much higher, like a little hill, which was messing up the flow of the yard. All back yards have a slope that leads water away from the house. In this case the water was being pushed back into the corner. Also there were no gutters which added to the issue. So we installed gutters which protect your foundation from damage.)

(Yikes, right?!?! As you can see we tried digging an opening which only made the situation worse because of the sloping issues.)

 (Scary for a woman, seriously. But the guys knew what to do.)

 (My dad was a surveyor for a few years, also worked as a diver and civil engineer, so this was nothing for him to figure out. He layed out wooden stakes and strings across the yard to determine the slop. Then started cutting and scalping the ground. We used the top grass parts as sod in dead areas of the yard *smart idea*)

       After the digging and moving of dirt was finished we let the ground settle, then bought some sod to fill in the scalped area. We had professionals install gutters. When all that was finished we started our next project....a relaxing fountain area.
