Dining room updates

Our dining room as been a slow project. We went several years with it being an empty space, then we had only a table; no chairs. Finally, we bought a new light fixture and rug. I'm proud to say our dining room is complete. The only remaining large projects are installing arch molding and replacing our french doors, but that's on the end of our long list of house projects.

I really love the picture frame I purchased from Target.

I haven't filled the three frames yet.

We get lots of sun during the day. This is why we chose black out curtains. They aren't the prettiest curtains but they keep the summer heat out in the afternoon. I usually open them after 3pm when we get lots of shade. <3

Our new light fixture from Lowe's and our new rug from Kirklands.

This is the view from our Kitchen doors. For me, this picture captures the truest colors of our dining room.

My dad teaching hubby how to install the lights and do the wiring.

I wonder how long it will take before one of our three dogs has an accident on our new rug lol. I've  mentally prepared myself  and will not freak out. Our main perpetrator has gotten better, or shall I say, mommy has gotten better at letting her out when she notifies me lol.

Dining room Cabinet

We picked up our new TV console at the local Rooms-to-go yesterday. This allowed us to move the cabinet we were using into the dining room like we've been planning for years. Check out my past blog post about this piece of furniture HERE.

( I love how slim this cabinet is - one of the reasons we picked it years ago.
It fits well in our small space.)

(lots of spaces between the chairs and cabinet)

Dining Room Chairs

Check out our dining room BEFORE pictures <<<---- Click there!

The day has finally come, we have chairs in our dining room! It's been two years! We found our table on sale about a year ago and couldn't find any chairs we liked. Finally, we found something slim for our small dining room. The colors look great in our space!

(Here you can see the fabric details. I love the variety of blues, golds and creams.)

As we were shopping for chairs, we knew we weren't looking for something overly matchy-matchy. The woods didn't have to be identical, they simply had to go well together. I like how the spindle legs mimic the table legs.

( the height work well also)

We have three more things on our to-do list. 1.) Buy a rug.  2.) Buy a new light fixture. 3.) Install white arch molding (see the tan/yellow paint along the room transition/arch?) 4.) Move our current TV stand to under the map and use as a buffet table (we are waiting until we get a new TV stand.) So, that's it for the dining room for now.

Dining Room

Last month we began working on our dining room again. We finally found a large, wooden, country table (no chairs yet). I'm not much of a "set" girl. I don't like buying matching sets, I think it lacks personality, especially if it matches perfectly.
We wanted an accent wall in our dining room to breakup the color flowing form the living room and searched forever for the right shade. Our living room and dining room basically share the same space so I wanted the colors of each room to compliment each other without matching. Our living room is painted in Behr's Pebble Path with Peacock Tail as the accent wall.
After many samples we went with Sherwin Williams' Hazel for our dinning room. It's a beautiful blue green.

This picture really doesn't showoff the beautiful color. In person it has a green hint to it, unlike the pictures that looks baby blue. We also threw out the accent wall idea and painted the entire dining room, which looks really great. It's a cozy little nook now. Next on our list for this room is a rug and some chairs.

Dining room

Our dining room continues to transform. Check out our new window treatment for the French doors.

 (When we moved in)

(after we refinished the floors and painted)

(Before we changed the blinds on the French doors)

(we changed the blinds on the French doors. We love having curtains instead. Now we can see the entire deck area, and block the heat of the sun in the afternoon.)

Dining room at a stand still

Have you ever left a room empty? That's where we are when it comes to the dining room. I have tons of ideas, but haven't settled on one yet.  I'm debating if I want a round or rectangle table, if I want traditional rustic, or if I want a funky colored table with fancy accessories. Can you believe how far this room has come since October 2012? I'm enjoy the open space. My dogs use it as a play room.  :-)

(This was the picture on Har. Thankfully my hubs and I could see past what was there and saw what we could do with it. Just like God does with us. He sees past the wear and tear of life on us, and see what we were meant to be.)

 (painted and refinished)

(TADA! We love the natural light this room radiates throughout the house. We are going to change the blinds on the french doors though. We thought we'd like these, but I really like the idea of having a curtain rod above the doors and being able to enjoy a full view of the deck. Also, being able to fully close the blinds on those hot summer days would be a plus.)
